Chocolate in a way you have never really looked at it before.

The Venue
This small and super central venue is aiming at the heart of every chocolate lover. It's an airy space lined in light wood with a mix of low tables, wide stools, high chairs and booths that has families clearly in mind. To fit the chocolate theme its furnishings follow a pale orange, yellow and brown scheme.Floor-to-ceiling windows towards the square creates lots of natural light, and the outdoor seats add some space to this pretty but tiny bar.

The People
Families make up most of the regulars of Chocolate Soup but they're not alone. Clusters of girls and even guys gather here for their chocolate fix. You wouldn't expect three or four strapping lads to sit and sip decadent hot chocolates and yet they're here!

The Drink
What’s a chocolate soup? Thankfully it's not about boiling vegetables in a cacao broth. Instead its a selection of elaborate hot chocolate drinks. You can choose if you want your drink made from dark or white chocolate and you can order anything from a pure shot for £1.50 to a Harvest Spice for £3.25 which contains spicy chocolate mixed with cinnamon and nutmeg. One stand out indulgence is the White Chocolate Caramel.

Smooth Soups cost £3.15 and are in reality chocolate smoothies. The Chocktails are the sweet lovers' equivalent of regular cocktails which are basically desserts in a glass delectably mixing different flavours, like the Banana Split Latte with its chocolate soup, banana and caramel. Although it's not light in the calorie department, at least you won't get drunk!

The Food
Obviously, they sell solid chocolate too. Not as bars but in desserts like the decadent Chocolate Brownie Sandwich for £3. Alternatively, you can go fruity with all sort of pastries or get a real soup (with no chocolate in it) for £2.40 to £4. On a more healthy side, you can get porridge (£1.65) with almost any topping possible.

The Last Word
An excellent bar with a truly innovative drink list, Chocolate Soup is a great alternative to a regular pub or lounge and it has the added advantage of keeping you sober. And, yes, the chocolate tastes great! Much better than any beer…
