This unassuming little cafe offers wonderful Turkish food that's served with minimum fuss but bundles of charm.

The Venue
Even though it sits in the middle of a bustle of bars and restaurants Cafe Truva still feels like an undiscovered gem. This small venue is nestled on a corner spot, with large glass windows giving views of the water of Leith and its cobbled banks. Its terracotta walls are haphazardly dotted with sepia images of old Leith and Turkish trinkets and mismatched dark wood tables and chairs give Cafe Truva a charming 'take me as I am' attitude.

The People
You can’t help but feel relaxed in this modest setting. It has a fireside cosy atmosphere and feels instantly familiar. Staff are friendly and accommodating but don't hastle you. When lunch hits there's a buzz about the place, with queues at the counter for takeaway yet it never loses its tranquility.

The Food
Behind a large glass display sits an array of tempting food and its from this rainbow selection that all the dishes are created. Their lightly spiced stewed vegetables could be the centre of your mezze or make a vegetable gratin when topped with grated mozzarella and baked in the oven. But for a real taste of Truva order mezze. It's a pick ‘n’ mix dish of smooth hoummous, tangy carrot dip, juicy stuffed vine leaves, aromatic cous cous, baked spinach with egg topping and olives in every hue of green. You also get pitta bread to mop up the flavours.

While mains are filling it’s unlikely you’ll resist a pudding. Sitting teasingly atop the counter are creamy cheesecakes, gooey sponges and – the one that really weakens your resolve – traditional baklava, sticky to the touch with honey. Most mains come in at around the £6 mark with puddings generally under £3. So, even though you're stuffed, your purse won’t feel empty.

The Drink
Don’t expect the drinks to quite match the colourful array of food. It's a mix of soft drinks (cola, orange juice, apple juice etc) and good quality coffee, as well as frothy cappuccinos. If you want to stay with the Turkish theme there's sweet apple tea served in shiny silver pots.

The Last Word
Cafe Truva is all about authentic food served in a tranquil, cosy atmosphere. It's difficult to fault and even more difficult to forget.
