Add the brilliant Bailie Bar to the list of boutiques, delis and vintage shops, and you have yet another great reason to take a trip to Stockbridge.

The Venue
Cellar bars are ten a penny in Edinburgh but good cellar bars are difficult to come by. The Bailie, as it happens, is one of the most attractive places to drink in the city; especially during the colder months. Here, in all its underground glory, is a bar so rich in character you could spend a whole day here quite happily. With its huge central bar providing a focal point, the pub’s layout makes it perfect for quick service and comfortable drinking. Aesthetically, pictures and paintings of local interest litter the walls offering plenty to keep the mind occupied whilst a large coal fire is on hand to provide any extra warmth.

The People
Men and women of all ages drink in the Bailie. It’s popular with shoppers pottering around the nearby vintage shops as well as regulars who live in sleepy Stockbridge. Students' seeking a place to chat in peace and young couples getting to know one another are also quite commonly seen sitting soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying a good drink.

The Food
Despite a number of popular eateries in the vicinity, The Bailie still stands out for its good range and high quality. Here you can find an excellent selection of local produce including freshly caught haddock with chips (£8.70) or cottage pie with veg (£6.95). There’s also a specials' menu which is well worth checking out. Here you can find anything from Aberdeen Angus steaks to brie and bacon sandwiches, it all depends on what the chef has to offer on the day.

The Drink
The Bailie has a reputation for providing a good selection of drinks, especially beer. Guest ales (three of them) are always on offer, normally with a great selection of Scottish and English brews, ranging from the well known to the one off. You can also grab a lovely pint of Pilsner Urquell, one of the finest Czech beers available in the UK. Gins, whiskies and bourbons are also in plentiful supply. Whisky lovers should be aware that they have a list of around 30 varieties, but it's the beer fans that’ll benefit the most from the Bailie's brilliant bar.

The Last Word
Good food, great atmosphere, fine drinks and excellent interior - what more could you ask for? The Bailie is a must see for anyone in Edinburgh, whether you are a resident or a visitor.
