The ViewEdinburgh Review
Brauhaus has one selling point nobody else can boast – over 300 different world beers. The VenueSituated between Lothian Road and Edinburgh College of Art, Brauhaus is a tiny little corner bar you could quite easily miss. If you do spot it and pop in you’ll be able to enjoy a tastefully decorated bar with a distinctively modern yet unpretentious feel to it. Couches and chairs are in short supply though, so expect to stand if you arrive after work, as this place has a tendency to pack out come 6pm. There’s a big screen for sport and the bar staff are brilliantly well informed on their stock and the best way to serve it. You are almost always guaranteed a friendly welcome and a bit of buzz when you head in.
The PeopleDuring term time art students will pop in from time to time, but the bars most consistent clientele seems to be more cultured professionals, well travelled bohemian types and people from overseas seeking a reassuring taste of back home.
The FoodCrusty cheesy bread at about £1.50 will fill you up at the bar if you are in a hurry, but you’d do well to think about taking some time out to enjoy a spicy continental sausage platter £4.95 or their bratwurst in baps (£3.50).
The DrinkWhere exactly do you start? This place has a startlingly impressive amount of beers, in every style you can imagine, from any country you can care to think of. At the last count there are over 300 to choose from and, believe it or not, two bottles can often cost less than a fiver. There is also a real bargain to be had with their £10 beer bucket which consists of five choice tipples from around the globe. Two of the most popular beers are Kwak from Belgium and Rockford’s from the USA. Wine buffs beware though, there isn’t much for you to choose from. Best to experiment with the beer, you are more than likely to find a tipple to savour.
The Final WordBrauhaus is brilliant because of its amazing beer selection - it’s as simple as that. Whether it’s a pilsner, stout, porter, fruit or specialty beer you’re after you’ll find it here.
